As the new Trump Administration and the 115th Congress begin their work this year, there is news of threats towards the National Endowment for the Arts. In an effort to cut spending the NEA would be entirely cut, even though the NEA and NEH account for less than .002% of our federal spending -- about 46 cents each, for every American, every year. The NEA has been the life-blood and foundation of the arts community across our nation since 1965. They provide grants for dance, music, drama, literature, outreach education, and so much more. They are a vital supporter of Arts For The Schools, making our Visual Arts, Performing Arts, onSTAGE, and other programs possible. |
The next step is for Congress to begin consideration of a budget resolution, which helps it organize its appropriations process. At the same time, the Trump Administration will be publishing its own budget proposal in late February and further details in May.
While Congress continues to remain very divided over spending priorities, final funding decisions on last year's budget will not be known until April and at the same time they'll be working on this year's (FY18) budget. Take 2-minutes now to weigh in and support funding for the NEA!
